Why we choose CastaDiva Resort

Your own (almost) private Italian villa

  • The award-winning spa has everything from hot stone massages to chromotherapy
  • Come sunset, the pool transforms into a display of dancing fountains set to opera music
  • Private, multi-bedroom villas offer more space and solitude

Nestled in a botanical park lush with old-growth trees, CastaDiva Resort and Spa is a new hotel on the shores of Lake Como. With just 73 rooms and suites, it feels about as close to a private seaside villa as you can get, but with the added benefit of five-star amenities like a world-class spa, lakefront swimming pool, and fine dining.

At-your-side butlers and concierges make your visit as stress-free as possible and raise the bar on the concept of personalized, discreet service. If you want to feel like royalty in one of Italy’s most exclusive destinations, then CastaDiva’s polished lakefront elegance is just the retreat you’ve been looking for.

We suggest

The bi-level Castadiva Suites, which are located in the historic tower of the original Villa Roccabruna, afford panoramic views of the lake from the wraparound walls of windows.

What you need to know about the hotel

A waterfront hideaway of romance and relaxation

  • Set the mood with a romantic dinner at L’Orangerie
  • Head to the pool, floating in Lake Como, for extra special views while you swim
  • The indulgent spa is equipped with private suites, kneipp circuit, ice cascade and emotion showers

At CastaDiva, most of the rooms have lake views and private outdoor spaces (balconies, terraces or gardens) where you can sip your morning coffee and evening glass of wine. Accommodations are individually styled with four-poster beds, gilded mirrors, rich drapes, plus modern elements like LCD TVs.

The resort has some stellar amenities, like a floating pool right on the lake and its most celebrated feature, the nearly 14,000-square-foot spa. The spa offers hydrotherapy baths and treatments like massages, facials, moisturizing wraps, and couples’ rituals. Come evening, the candlelit L’Orangerie Restaurant has a seasonal Italian menu using the freshest ingredients. Pair your catch of the day or homemade pasta with a bottle of wine chosen from more than 450 Italian and international labels.

Where is it and what's nearby

A genteel escape to one of the world’s most famous lakes

  • CastaDiva is about 45 minutes from Milano Malpensa Airport
  • Take a boat tour round the lake, stopping off at neighboring villages
  • Watching the sunset from the Bar Bellini’s outdoor terrace—perhaps with a bellini in hand?

Lake Como stands apart from the usual big-city adventures of, say, Florence and Rome. Rather, the serene shoreline is fringed by dramatic mountains, quaint villages, and high-end resorts and villas—the perfect backdrop for a boating excursion on the lake or hiking the nearby trails. The historic center of Como is a 12th-century walled city filled with charming boutiques and cafes. Known for its fine silk products, there are numerous shops selling items like scarves and ties in locally made silk.

Car and racing enthusiasts, take note. One of the area’s biggest events is the Italian Formula 1 Grand Prix, which is held every September in Monza Park, not far from Lake Como.

How to enjoy Italian Lakes

The combination of high mountains framing the still waters of Italy’s northern lakes creates a place of unique perfection

  • South of Lake Maggiore are the Borromeo Islands, chock full of surprises like Baroque palaces, exotic plants and free-roaming animals
  • Hop a boat to Eremo di Santa Catarina del Sasso, whose cliff-hugging Hermitage is a spiritual and architectural powerhouse

The Italian lakes region proves that Italy is more than art and architecture. This chic district wows with a network of lakefront towns that entices celeb globetrotters to put down roots (we’re looking at you, George Clooney).

There are lakes throughout Italy, but when people talk about “The Lakes,” they mean this northern slice of heaven encompassing four major lakes: Como, Garda, Lugano and Maggiore. Lake Como gets all the love from celebrities, but don’t skip gems like the smaller Lake Orta, whose fairytale island houses a monastery.

This breathtaking region may be Italian in geography, but it feels like a whole other world. The living is more orderly and more formal—but with the same Italian flair, of course. Tourists flock here from all over, but locally, it’s a convenient weekend escape for the (very) wealthy of Milan. A fun game for tourists is debating which ultra-rich family has built the largest waterfront villa.
